Year 3/4 Sports and Hobbies -Senora Wathen

Miércoles 30 de marzo
Last Wednesday and today we've been working with hobbies and sports. Last week was sunny and we were playing a Spanish playground game outside, "El pañuelo". It's a simple game in which there are two teams and each child has a different number, there's a person in the middle holding a cloth and shouting numbers. The children need to run at catch it before anyone else.
Today they drew a picture of themselves playing a sport or doing an action and they wrote about it.
Me gusta jugar al fútbol pero no me gusta cantar. (I like playing football but I don't like singing.)
No me gusta nadar ni tampoco correr. (I don't like swimming or running either.)
I've been working with some of them recording some information about what they like/don't like to do in their free time. You'll be able to listen to them soon.
They love this way of learning.
In the Spanish Club we are learning about fruits and healthy diet. We played different games and they also learned a poem.
Enjoy your holidays!

¡Hola a todos!
Last Wednesday in year 3 we continued with the new topic "Sports and hobbies". We were playing Simón dice, the Spanish version of Simon's says, they loved it!
In the Spanish Club we had a culture lesson, we were playing a game to a well-known Spanish song I used to sing when I was a child, it's called "El corro de la patata". It involves different vocabulary related with food in the catchy rhythm and you also need to do different actions while you're singing.
Here you have a link to listen it.

This week in upper KS2 we've been working with different transports (en coche, en tren, en avión, en barco, en autocar ...). They're creating material for KS1 children. Some of them are working in books, some of them are working in comics and some of them are working in songs. They are doing a fantastic job! We will show it to you in a few weeks.
In year 3 we've been doing some mime games about the new topic, sports and hobbies, and writing some simple sentences about what they do in their free time (e.g. El lunes juego al baloncesto.)
The Spanish Club has been really funny, we've been working with some spanish tongue twisters. It was quite funny for them. Here you have two of them, try to read them!
"Mi mamá me mima y yo mimo a mi mamá." (My mum spoils me and I spoil my mum.)
"El rey se ríe de la reina." (The king laughs at the queen.)
By the way, have you seen the crossword?!

Languages Spoken By Our Children
Wednesday, 9 February 2011
Today in Years 5 and 6 we have been finishing our presentations about our family. Most of them are ready and posted on the blog. Some of them sound like a native Spanish speaker! Amazing! Why don't you have a look at them? They are really funny! We have also been working on comprehension activities. You are all getting better and better.
The Spanish club was really enjoyable this week. We were learning parts of the body and the face. We were drawing monsters with three eyes, two noses, one ear ... We did a picture dictation in pairs. The children did it beautifuly.
Next week something new will appear, "The question of the week". You will need to try to find out the answer to some questions about Spanish language and also about Spanish culture and lifestyle so watch this blog :)

This morning we've been recording our family presentations in Year 6. They have done a great job. You can listen to some of them here, we used voki and they are really funny. In addition we have been reading about some famous people like the Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.
In Year 3 we have been working with food vocabulary and how to order in a Spanish restaurant. We need to be ready for the "Spanish afternoon". They have also done a fantastic job.
Today in the Spanish Club we have been painting pictures by working with colours and numbers. Some of them have realised that learning Spanish could be funny. They loved it!

Spanish 2011
In lower Keystage 2 the children will be learning how to order food in a Spanish restaurant through role play.
The children in upper Keystage 2 will be learning how to present members of their family including pets. They will make a recording of this and they will then create a voki character with a voice to speak their presentation for them.
Please note the Spanish club is now running on a Wednesday lunch time with our Spanish assistant Sara Alonso from Madrid if you would like to join please see Mrs Wathen or speak to Sara Alonso.
